O2 Sensor No Activity Detected Bank 1 Sensor 1
Understand the P0134 inactive oxygen sensor code, why the ECM sees no signal, and how to test the heater and signal circuits.
What you may notice
Symptoms
- 01Check engine light on
- 02Poor fuel economy
- 03Rough running
- 04Failed emissions test
- 05Engine stuck in open-loop fuel control
Where to look first
Common causes
- 01Failed oxygen sensor
- 02Open in the sensor signal or heater circuit
- 03Blown O2 heater fuse
- 04Corroded or disconnected connector
- 05Exhaust leak near the sensor
Step by step
What to check and repair
- 01Check the O2 heater fuse and power supply
- 02Inspect wiring and connector for opens or corrosion
- 03Test the heater circuit resistance
- 04Check for exhaust leaks upstream of the sensor
- 05Replace the oxygen sensor if it never activates
What Does P0134 Mean?
The P0134 code means the ECM detects no activity from the upstream oxygen sensor on Bank 1, Sensor 1. The signal is flat instead of switching, so the ECM cannot use it for fuel control.
Heater Circuit Matters
Many "no activity" faults are caused by a failed sensor heater. If the sensor never reaches operating temperature, it never starts switching, which the ECM reads as inactivity.
How AI4Car Helps
AI4Car shows the sensor voltage and whether it ever begins switching after warm-up, helping you decide between a heater fault, a wiring open, and a dead sensor.
