MAP Sensor Range/Performance Problem
Learn what triggers P0106 MAP sensor range/performance code and how to fix an implausible manifold pressure reading.
What you may notice
Symptoms
- 01Check engine light on
- 02Rough idle or stalling
- 03Poor acceleration or hesitation
- 04Poor fuel economy
- 05Engine running rich or lean
Where to look first
Common causes
- 01Faulty MAP sensor
- 02Vacuum leak or disconnected vacuum hose to the sensor
- 03Damaged wiring or corroded connector
- 04Clogged or dirty MAP sensor port
- 05Boost leak on turbocharged engines
Step by step
What to check and repair
- 01Inspect and clean the MAP sensor and its vacuum port
- 02Check vacuum hoses for cracks, leaks, or disconnection
- 03Test MAP sensor voltage against specification
- 04Inspect wiring and connector for damage
- 05Replace the MAP sensor if it fails testing
What Does P0106 Mean?
P0106 means the manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor signal doesn't match what the ECM expects based on other readings like throttle position and RPM - the value is out of its normal, plausible range.
Impact On Your Engine
Since the ECM uses MAP data to calculate the air/fuel mixture, an implausible reading can cause the engine to run too rich or too lean, hurting both performance and fuel economy.
How AI4Car Helps
AI4Car lets you watch live MAP sensor voltage and compare it to throttle position in real time, making it easy to see if the reading is stuck, erratic, or simply out of range.
