To understand a cold engine that cranks but will not start, compare it under normal, safe conditions: cold versus warm, idle versus steady speed, and light versus higher load. Record outside temperature, cranking duration, fuel level, and whether the problem clears after waiting. Change one condition at a time so the result stays useful.
Do not create a risky test just to reproduce it. Check battery connections and recent service before assuming the fuel pump or ignition system has failed.
